Millions of Heroes fans like myself download the episodes from iTunes. Am I paying for free TV? Of course I am, but it's worth it to me so I don't have to be a slave to a network's programming schedule. Plus, no commercials. Now, because NBC and Apple can't come to an agreement about royalties or something dumb like that, NBC decided to not renew it's contract with iTunes to sell their programming.
Am I completely retarded, or does this make no sense? They're selling free TV! Every cent on iTunes they make is more than they'd make without iTunes. It's not like it takes away from their revenue from commercials. Granted, there's whispers of a new thing that NBC is participating in called "Hulu" which is some online media provider that will never measure up to iTunes. Plus, NBC's programming did account for 40% of all video downloads on iTunes, but that doesn't really give them more pull in my opinion. NBC shows sold well on iTunes because everyone goes to iTunes. I think they're being naive to think that if they go somewhere else, that same 40% of all video downloads will follow. Too bad NBC isn't smart enough to learn from Sony's mistake with the Connect Music Store in trying to take on iTunes. I suppose it's too bad for me really, because now I have to sit down at the same time as everyone else and watch Heroes on my TV. Sad.
